Haw Pha Kaew Buddha
#160312000
One of the many Buddha statues surrounding the Haw Phra Kaew, on Setthathirat Rd., which was built in 1565 by King Setthathirath. It housed a famous emerald buddha which the king had brought from Chiang Mai, and which now resides in the Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. This temple was destroyed by the Siamese in 1828 and rebuilt by the French in the 1920's. It is now a museum housing the finest collection of Lao art, including a Buddha in the 'Beckoning Rain' mudra pose.
