Spruce Tree House
#160253032
Spruce Tree House, the third largest of the cliff dwelling at Mesa Verde with 130 rooms and 8 kivas (ceremonial chambers), was constructed between 1211 and 1278 AD. It occupies an area 216 feet long by 89 feet wide and is thought to have been the home for 60 to 80 people. It was discovered in modern times in 1888 by ranchers and named, mistakenly, for a large spruce tree which was actually a Douglas fir.
